Name Origin
The Blomeyer Member of the Mifflin Formation (Templeton and Willman, 1963, p. 80) is named for Blomeyer, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, about 6 miles southwest of the type section.
Type Section
The type section of the Blomeyer Member is located in a small quarry a quarter of a mile east of the highway junction at Rock Levee (NW cor. NE NW 24, 30N-13E), where the member is 12.1 feet thick.
Extent and Thickness
The Blomeyer is irregularly present, but it is as much as 15 feet thick in subsurface in southern Illinois. It is less than a foot to 3 feet thick in the northern outcrop area.
Description
The Blomeyer consists of argillaceous, fine-grained limestone, or locally dolomite, that weathers thin-bedded to shaly.
