Name Origin

The Reelsville Limestone Member of the Ridenhower Formation (Malott, 1919, p. 10-11), the uppermost member, is named for Reelsville, Putnam County, Indiana.

Type Section

The type section of the Reelsville Limestone Member is on the Eel River, just south of Reelsville, where the member is 2.5 feet thick.

Description

The Reelsville is classified as a formation in Indiana. It is dominantly limestone but contains beds of shale. It is not differentiated in the type section of the Ridenhower Formation, and it has limited distribution in southeastern Illinois, mostly in subsurface. The Agassizocrinus cf. leavis Peak Zone is equivalent to the Reelsville Member.
