Name Origin

The Beaver Bend Limestone Member of the Ridenhower Formation (Malott, 1919, p. 9-10), the lowermost member, is named for a prominent bend in Beaver Creek, Lawrence County, Indiana.

Type Section

The type section of the Beaver Bend Limestone Member is a railroad cut half a mile east of Huron.

Description

The Beaver Bend is classified as a formation in Indiana. It consists of limestone and shale, and in southeastern Illinois it can be differentiated from the Reelsville Member only locally, where the intervening Sample Sandstone is present.
