Original description

The Popcorn Sandstone Bed in the base of the Shetlerville Member of the Renault Limestone (Swann, 1963, p. 32).

Derivation

Named for Popcorn Spring, 700 feet north of Popcorn Church in Lawrence County, Indiana (SE SE SW 5, 6N-2W), where it forms the base of the Paoli Formation.

It occurs in Hardin County, but it is not widely recognized in Illinois.
