Stratigraphic relationships
The Summum (No. 4) Coal, which also thickens in the same unfilled channels as the Kerton Creek, overlies the Kerton Creek by only a few feet. The Kerton Creek does not have an underclay but rests directly on the Pleasantview Sandstone.
Extent and thickness
This coal is recognized only in Fulton County, where it occurs in channels that had been only partially filled with the underlying Pleasantview Sandstone. The coal is up to 5 feet thick.
Lithology
This coal is either canneloid or quite high in ash.
