The Lovell Member of the Mt. Simon Sandstone (Templeton, 1950, p. 155).

Derivation

Named for Lovell School, De Kalb County.

Type location

The type section of the Lovell Member is located three-fourths of a mile north of the school for which it is named in De Kalb County. It is the interval from 2850-2975 feet deep (sample set 1301) in the same boring as the Crane Member.

Stratigraphic relationships

The Lovell Member overlies the Kenyon Member of the Mt. Simon Sandstone.

Extent and thickness

The Lovell Member is 65-190 feet thick.

Lithology

It is largely fine- to medium-grained sandstone, although it ranges from very fine to very coarse. It is finer grained than the adjacent members.
