The following names are informal names used in the oil fields of Illinois. The formal names which relate to the informal names are listed as well.

Pennsylvanian names in Southern Illinois (south of 40° North latitude)
"Anvil Rock, Cuba, Upper Dudley, Dykstra, Jake Creek, Jamestown, Pleasantview, 1st or Upper Siggins" are part of the [[Carbondale Formation]
"Bellair 500, Bridgeport, Browning, Claypool, Lower Dudley, Isabel, Kickapoo, Petro, Robinson, 2nd or Lower Siggins, Wilson" are part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Spoon Formation)
"Bellair 800" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Burtschi" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Casey" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Mansfield" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Dagley" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Partlow" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"3rd and 4th Siggins" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)

"Golconda lime" is part of the Haney Limestone
"Jackson sand" is part of the Big Clifty Sandstone Member
"Barlow" is between the Big Clifty Sandstone Member (above) and the Cypress Sandstone (below)
"Weiler/Kirkwood" is part of the Cypress Sandstone
"Paint Creek sand" is part of the lower Ridenhower Formation
"upper Renault" is between the Bethel Sandstone (above) and the Paoli Formation (below)
"Benoist" is part of the Paoli Limestone
"Lower Renault" is part of the Levias Limestone Member
"Aux Vases lime" is part of the Aux Vases Sandstone
"Ohara" is part of the Karnak Limestone Member
"Rosiclare" is part of the Spar Mountain Sandstone Member
"McClosky" is part of the Ste. Genevieve Limestone
"Westfield" is part of the upper St. Louis Limestone
"Martinsville" is part of the lower St. Louis Limestone
"Warsaw lime" is part of the Ullin Limestone
