The following names are informal names used in the oil fields of Illinois. The formal names which relate to the informal names are listed as well.

Pennsylvanian names in Southern Illinois (south of 40° North latitude)
"Casey" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Mansfield" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"3rd and 4th Siggins" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)


Mississippian names in Northern Illinois (north of 40° North latitude)
"Hoing sandstone" is part of the Cedar Valley Limestone


Mississippian names in Southern Illinois (south of 40° North latitude)
"Golconda lime" is part of the Haney Limestone
"Jackson sand" is part of the Big Clifty Sandstone
"Barlow" is between the Big Clifty Sandstone (above) and the Cypress Sandstone (below)
