Historical:Sample Sandstone Member

The Sample Sandstone Member of the Ridenhower Formation (Butts, 1917, p. 70-73), the middle member, is named for the town of Sample, Breckenridge County, Kentucky.
The type section of the Sample Sandstone Member is in a railroad cut on the north bank of Sinking Creek, 1 mile east of Sample.
The Sample Sandstone Member is dominantly sandstone and shale. It occurs locally in southeastern Illinois.
